Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about entering, judging, dates and the 2027 ceremony.

What are the VET Sector Awards?+

An initiative that recognises and celebrates outstanding achievements in the Vocational Education and Training sector across Australia.

Who is eligible to participate?+

Any individual or organisation actively involved in the VET sector in Australia is eligible. International organisations are not currently eligible.

Is there a fee to enter?+

No. Nominations are completely free.

When do nominations open and close?+

Nominations open on 1 December 2026 and close on 28 February 2027.

When is the awards ceremony?+

The ceremony will be held on 15 May 2027. Further venue details will be announced closer to the date.

How do I nominate someone?+

Through the online nomination form on this site. You provide details about the nominee, the category, and evidence supporting the nomination.

Can I nominate myself?+

Yes, self-nominations are accepted.

Can I nominate in more than one category?+

Yes. You can nominate an individual or organisation in multiple categories, provided they meet the criteria for each.

What are the award categories?+

There are 48 categories spanning practitioners, providers, employers, programs, resources, innovation and special recognition. See the Award Categories page for the full list.

Who judges the awards?+

An independent panel of industry leaders and experts, including Sukh Sandhu, Anna Haranas, Michelle Newman, Raj Kiran, Malka Lawrence, Gail Baker and Sue Bidesi, among others.

What are the judging criteria?+

Judges look for demonstrated excellence, contribution to the VET sector, innovation, impact and leadership.

How are winners decided?+

The panel screens all nominations, then conducts an in-depth review against the criteria. All decisions are final.

How will I know my nomination was received?+

You will receive a confirmation email once your nomination has been submitted.

Can I edit or withdraw a nomination?+

Nominations can be edited up until the closing date of 28 February 2027, and can be withdrawn by contacting the team before then.

What do winners receive?+

Winners receive a trophy and a certificate of recognition, and are profiled on our website and in the media.

Can the public attend the ceremony?+

Yes. The ceremony is open to the public, with tickets available closer to the date.

How can I become a sponsor?+

Visit the Sponsorship page or contact the team. Sponsors are recognised in promotional materials, on the website and during the event.

Can I volunteer or get involved?+

Yes - you can nominate, sponsor, volunteer or attend. Contact us for volunteering opportunities.

Are TAFE and private providers judged separately?+

Yes, there are separate awards for TAFE and private training providers.

Can previous winners be nominated again?+

Yes, previous winners are welcome to be nominated again.
